Non-Surgical Root Canal

A non‑surgical root canal is a way to save a tooth that has a deeply irritated or infected nerve, often due to a large cavity, crack, or past trauma. Instead of removing the tooth, we clean and seal the inside, letting you keep your natural tooth in place and get out of pain.
Many people are surprised to find that root canals today feel much like having a filling, just with a bit more time in the chair. We begin with thorough numbing and confirm that the tooth is comfortable before we start. Then we make a small opening, remove the inflamed tissue from the canals, gently shape the space, and disinfect the inside of the root. Once the canals are clean and dry, we fill them with a rubber‑like material that seals the space to help prevent future infection. Depending on the tooth and how much structure remains, we usually recommend a crown afterward to protect it from cracking, since teeth needing root canals are often already weakened.
We use digital X‑rays and careful measuring tools to guide the procedure, and we explain each step as we go, especially for patients who may be nervous or have heard old stories about root canals. Our aim is to relieve your pain, not cause more.
After the visit, mild soreness is common for a few days, but most patients are surprised at how quickly they feel relief from the original toothache. We send you home with clear instructions and see you back to check healing and, when ready, to complete any crown or final restoration. By treating the inside of the tooth rather than removing it, we help you keep your natural bite and smile whenever possible.
